In an age where travellers seek to connect more deeply with nature, and with an ever-growing population and developments the importance for areas to protect their surroundings, wildlife and nature, nature-based tourism has become very important.
Having areas that can bring people out of the 4 walls and be part of nature is good for one’s health, is good for nurturing relationships, and gives a chance to appreciate the world we live.
This type of tourism emphasises experiencing natural environments while minimising human impact, promoting sustainability, and appreciating the beauty of the great outdoors.
What is a Nature-Based Tourism campground you ask?
A nature-based tourism campground is a campsite or holiday park that caters specifically to caravans, motorhomes, and sometimes rooftops, tents and swags (and at Burrum Shore, we cater to all).
Immersed in areas with rich natural beauty, these parks are often situated near national parks, forests, coastlines, or other scenic landscapes, providing visitors with easy access to outdoor activities like hiking, wildlife watching, kayaking, and fishing.
The parks themselves are designed to blend into the natural surroundings, using sustainable practices to minimise environmental impact.
The appeal of these parks lies not only in the convenience they offer but also in their ability to connect guests with the environment. Instead of staying in a traditional hotel or resort, guests are immersed in nature, waking up to sunrises and the sounds of birds, surrounded by forests, rivers, oceans or mountains.
Why should you choose a Nature-Based Tourism park?
There are numerous reasons why you would opt for a nature-based park:
Popular Activities at Nature-Based Campgrounds:
Nature-based tourism revolves around outdoor activities, and we are thrilled to say that you can enjoy quite a few of these while staying at Burrum Shores Beachfront Campground.
Beach walks – with the beach right out front you can enjoy kilometres of beach to enjoy a walk, wonder into town and experience the best Burrum Heads has to offer.
Fishing – you can choose to fish from our gorgeous beach or venture up the Burrum River which is known for great fishing – feeling a little more adventurous? We are the gateway to the famous K’Gari (Fraser Island) which is a must visit.
Wildlife – this is one of our most special commodities – and with our incredible wildlife comes an incredible sense of pride and protectiveness be it the bird life that lives in and around our lagoon or the various lizard species and kangaroo’s (who if you are lucky you will see them hop down the beach) We’re lucky to share the space with the wildlife and ask that you treat them with respect (don’t feed them) and allow them to enjoy the space like you do, be sure to keep pets on the lead when inside the campground, for their safety and the safety of our wildlife friends.
Our lagoon is perfect for paddling, be it kayaks, stand up paddle boards or cooling off (strictly nothing motorised is to be used in the lagoon/dam)
If astronomy is your thing or you just appreciate the night sky, be sure to take the time to look up – the stars are incredible and if you happen to be around when theres a full moon it is truly one of the most incredible sights to see.
If you are keen photographer we promise there is no shortage of inspiration, capture the sun as it rises above the water, the sunset dropping down over the back of the property, the coastline, the wildlife or even the driftwood and dead tree’s which make for incredible art.
When visiting Burrum Shores we ask that you remember we are not a caravan park, we are a nature based campground – take shorter showers where possible, park up the car and enjoy a walk where you can, utilise our toilets and showers however if you are set back a little further, bring your own portaloo and take advantage of our waste management point on site. Enjoy the simple things in life.
At low tide enjoy football fields of shallow pools, a haven for kids where you can swim,
look for shells and when the tide comes back in bring out the kayaks and paddle boards, set up the fishing rods and settle in for an afternoon before its time to light the campfire and listen to the crackle of the fire under the stars.
If it’s early, quietly watch the world wake , if it’s late we ask to keep the noise to a minimum, through the day be out enjoying all the incredible parts of our campground and the region has to offer.
Our swings are in trees, our playground is the beach, the shells are natures toys and our wildlife, sunrises and sunsets is our big screen. Come, stay & play and don’t miss out on our slice of paradise.
We welcome all set ups, be it a tent and car or completely self contained van towed behind a big American truck. The beauty of Burrum Shores is that everyone is welcome, everyone is a friend and everyone can enjoy, come together and create memories.
Key things to help preserve the campground and ensure you have a great time:
Cook outdoors (nothing beats it, trust us!)
Keep the car parked up as often as possible – enjoy the slower lifestyle and go for a walk
Swim, walk, paddle
Wake and watch the sunrise (at least once in your stay, trust us, you wont regret it)
Sit and watch the sunset
Light and gather around the campfire
Toast some marshmallows
Be kind to your neighbours
Turn in for the night and do it all again tomorrow
Our message to you :
Make friends, have conversions, make memories and make it the best holiday possible, the one you talk about for many years to come.
Thank you for being part of our very special journey and hopefully we see you soon at Burrum Shores Beachfront.
